How to use Bluesky Trending Topics
Track what the Bluesky community is talking about and use it to grow your presence.
BskySuite's Trending Topics tool surfaces the most-discussed topics on Bluesky right now — no manual scrolling, no guessing at hashtags. Here's how to read the data and use it effectively.
How the data is collected
Trending data is pulled from the Bluesky AppView public API, which surfaces popular posts and topics across the federated network. The list refreshes every 30 minutes automatically — click Refresh at any time to pull the latest snapshot without reloading the page. Because Bluesky is decentralised, "trending" reflects the default bsky.app AppView; feeds on independent PDS servers may show different topics.
Reading the trending list
Each entry shows a topic label (hashtag or keyword phrase), an approximate post count within the refresh window, and a rank number. Topics ranked 1–3 are in the "top tier" — usually moving fastest. Click any topic to open Bluesky's search results for that term in a new tab so you can read the actual posts driving the trend before deciding whether to join in.
Using trending data for your content strategy
The most effective use of trending data is joining a relevant conversation at the right moment — not chasing every trend. A practical framework: check BskySuite Trending before you write a post for the day. If a trending topic overlaps your niche, weave the tag into a post you were already planning. Avoid shoehorning off-topic trends into your content; Bluesky users are quick to call out engagement bait. Screenshot the trending list at the same time each day for a week to spot recurring patterns — certain topics trend predictably (e.g. show discussions on certain evenings, news cycles on weekday mornings).
What the tool is not
This is not a keyword tool for search-engine SEO, and it doesn't perform sentiment analysis. A topic can appear trending because it's being celebrated or heavily criticised — always read the posts before participating. If a topic disappears from the list, it left the top organically or the API snapshot updated. Refresh to see the current state.
